Systems Research and Data Analytics

Bauhaus Earth is a recognized research institution that investigates the interplay between climate and the built environment, focusing on the life cycle of materials and buildings—from the ecosystems from which they originate to their use at the various scales of component, building, neighbourhood, and city. Through transformation studies, modelling, and life cycle assessments (LCA), we integrate global systems research with regional contexts to develop insights for regenerative transformation.

Technical and Material Innovation

Together with research and industry partners, we design and test construction applications using nature-based materials from regional sources and reusable by-products from construction, industry, and consumer waste. Through experimentation, we aim to make regenerative design and circular solutions more accessible and adaptable for future integration into value chains. Our process blends traditional and modern building techniques to pioneer innovative approaches.

Demonstration and Application

We translate research into practice through real-world demonstration projects around the globe, exploring how regenerative planning and building can succeed at different scales and geographical contexts. Our regionally sensitive demonstrators—including prototypes, pavilions, or exhibition pieces—aim to activate local transformation processes and integrate transdisciplinary research. By engaging a wide range of partners, they provide tangible examples of circular solutions in action, helping to drive local and global change.

Policy and Action Advisory

We analyze regulatory, institutional and policy frameworks at the local, national, and global level to identify barriers and opportunities for the regenerative transformation of the built environment. Our goal is to place this transformation at the forefront of global policy agendas. Through strategic partnerships and targeted actions, such as high-level roundtables and participation in national and international coalitions, we aim to promote systemic change.

Education and Learning

We are committed to promoting education and learning as key drivers of change in the built environment. By connecting a diverse network of stakeholders, we create a dynamic ecosystem for collaborative learning and innovation. Through participatory learning formats, we foster cross-disciplinary and cross-regional exchange, encouraging the sharing of knowledge and ideas. We believe that only through collective action and continuous learning can we address the complex challenges of our time.
