Systems Research and Data Analytics

Bauhaus Earth conducts interdisciplinary research on how the built environment can become a driver of climate action. Through transformation studies, modelling, and life cycle assessments (LCA), we analyse regenerative building materials, evaluate their supply-and-demand at regional and global scales, and examine value chains from the ecosystems they originate in to their use and reuse in construction.

Technical and Material Innovation

We develop and test building materials and components made from natural resources as well as by-products from construction or consumer waste. Through experimentation, we work to make these solutions accessible and adaptable for integration into existing value chains. In collaboration with industry partners, our process blends traditional and modern building techniques to pioneer innovative approaches.

Demonstrators and Transformation Labs

We translate research into practice: through real-world demonstration projects that explore how regenerative building can succeed at different scales and in diverse geographic contexts around the world. Our demonstrators range from full-scale buildings and pavilions to prototypes and exhibits. They serve as catalysts for local transformation and document the evolving state of regenerative construction. At the same time, they create space for experimentation, critical reflection, and iterative adaptation in real time.

Policy and Action Advisory

Through policy dialogues, high-level roundtables, strategic partnerships, and national and international coalitions, Bauhaus Earth aims to place regenerative transformation at the centre of global policy agendas and to support its implementation. We analyse regulatory, institutional and policy frameworks from local to global levels to identify barriers and opportunities. We provide evidence-based recommendations that help embed regenerative principles into policy and decision-making processes.

Education and Learning

Climate literacy and continuous learning are essential for transforming the built environment toward a carbon-negative future. To build the knowledge and skills needed for regenerative construction, we combine theory with hands-on experience and vocational training. We offer academic seminars, workshops, and in-depth modules for industry, government, and civil society. We also host practice-oriented formats in our demonstrator buildings and in our in-house workshop.
