Bauhaus Earth, Transsolar KlimaEngineering, and Urban Catalyst have collaborated to create a mixed-media exhibition object titled “Energie gestalt Stadt [Energy Shapes the City]”. This will be part of the upcoming exhibition “Transform! Designing the Future of Energy” at the Vitra Design Museum in Basel. The exhibition opens on 23 March and runs until 1 September 2024. About the exhibition

Energy is the main driving force of our society; energy is political, energy is invisible, energy is omnipresent. All the buildings, infrastructure, and products related to the generation, distribution, and utilisation of energy are created by human beings. Therefore, design plays a key role in the planning, use, and adoption of new energy technologies.

The exhibition “Transform! Designing the Future of Energy” shines a light on the transformation of the energy sector from the perspective of design: from everyday products that use renewable energy to the design of solar houses and wind power stations; from smart mobility systems to futuristic visions of self-sufficient cities. What are the criteria for designing an energy-efficient product? How can design contribute to an increase in the use of renewable energy sources? How can industry, government policies and every one of us help to achieve the transition to a sustainable future?

With objects from the fields of mobility, buildings, textiles, and politics, the exhibition aims to be not only educational but also speculative and inspiring. Take a sneak peek at the programme!

The exhibition begins with the energy within human beings and our bodies. It then expands to examine everyday objects, cities, and the entire energy landscape. The displays include examples of innovative and experimental product design, design projects, films, architectural prototypes, and visionary futures.

Our exhibition piece

“Energie gestalt Stadt [Energy Shapes the City]” uses a combination of a digital projection and a physical model to show how the consideration of energy must be integrated early in the urban planning process. If done with care, cities have the potential to achieve parallel energy transformation goals in many sectors.
