BE-FELLOW is a collaboration between Bauhaus Earth and Experimental.
Submission Deadline: July 1, 2024 (23:59 CEST)
Applications for the third Open Call of the Bauhaus Earth Fellowship Programme (BE-FELLOW) are now open! We welcome proposals for experimental projects enabling new practices of regional, regenerative, and circular building and contributing to a powerful aesthetic for a sustainable architecture of the future.
BE-FELLOW invites exceptionally talented emerging practitioners and creatives — including architects, artists, designers, engineers, scientists, and cross-disciplinary collaborations — to test new modes of practice, engagement, and knowledge relating to shifting natural and disciplinary boundaries across different geographies and contexts.
The fellowship programme offers fellows a unique collaborative research environment and critical support in the development of a project or practice. It provides fellows with the necessary financial freedom, intellectual and professional mentoring, network, and environment to focus on pursuing their experimental ideas. In their projects, fellows actively collaborate with the BE-FELLOW team from both Bauhaus Earth and Experimental, as well as with other project-specific partners and experts. In doing so, the fellowship gives a platform for the promotion and implementation of both system-analytical and practical building experiments.
BE-FELLOW is a collaboration between Bauhaus Earth and Experimental, a non-profit organisation founded by Prof. Regine Leibinger. Since 2022, Experimental has been promoting practice-based experimental and research-oriented projects in sustainable architecture. Within BE-FELLOW, it complements the international and interdisciplinary think-and-make-tank of Bauhaus Earth and its practice-oriented Berlin Marienpark LAB.
The BE-FELLOW programme awarded its first fellowship to the London-based Material Cultures, who completed their project “Constructive Land Berlin/Brandenburg” in early 2024. We are currently supporting three additional fellows: Baukreisel e.V., Kevin Kimwelle from South Africa, and the Argentinian duo Heidi Jalkh and Angie Dub. The results of their research will be presented in the form of architectural fragments and reports.
To apply to the Open Call, please download the application materials here or visit the BE-FELLOW page on our website for more information.
Fellowship projects last between 6 and 8 months but are intended to lead to further projects and dialogues. They should explore clear research questions. The typical output consists of architectural fragments of a manageable scale within the proposed scope and timeline. These can serve as prototypes for research, testing, and dissemination of knowledge. The projects should aim for longevity and integration into a real-world context.
Successful candidates will be informed by September, with projects starting from November 2024 to June 2025.
The deadline for submission is Monday, 1 July 2024 (23:59 CEST).
Submissions should be sent in English exclusively by email to be-fellow@bauhauserde.org.
